The portrait showing the two in Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare

The Witches are characters from the Nightmare Before Christmas who appears within Haunted Mansion Holiday in Disneyland and Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare in Tokyo Disneyland.

Description[]

Origins[]

There are two witches, both of whom are residents of Halloween Town which embody the archetypal understanding of witches. They assist in the seasonal creation of the Halloween holiday and within the plot of the movie, in helping Jack Skellington recreate Christmas.

Of the witches one is tall and pale with gray hair while the other is diminutive with green skin. Their exact relationship is unknown though some media presumes the two to be sisters. Unofficial/semi-official media has also put forth that the big witch's name is Helgamine while the small one has the name Zeldaborn.

The small witch was portrayed by Debi Durst and the large witch by Susan McBride.

Appearances[]

Haunted Mansion Holiday[]

In the Scary Christmas display of the load area, the small witch is shown with a cauldron that has candy-cane patterned tentacles emerging from it. These tentacles are similar to those given to the under the bed monster found in the portrait corridor. Systematically, the silhouette of the large witch can be found flying against the moon, carrying the man-eating wreath.

Later in the séance circle, an illustration of the large witch is featured on one of Madame Leota's flying tarot cards. Representing the, "Ten Telling Tea Leaves" lyric of Leota's 13 days of Christmas poem, the witch is shown holding a tea-cup with ten tea-leaves inside.

Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare[]

In Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare, the witches are given an additional appearance within the corridor usually featuring the Sinister 11 portraits. A portrait shows the two witches together in this hallway, using their cauldron to brew eggnog. Their portrait occupies the space typically taken up by the Opera Glasses Lady.

Live-Appearances[]

The two witches appeared at a live-event for Haunted Mansion Holiday in 2003 hosted by Ken Page where they sang broadway songs. The witches sang a duet version of the song Trouble, most famously performed by Elvis Presley. Throughout the show they would also serve as back-up vocalists.
