The Walt Disney's Haunted Mansion model kits were a series of four model kits released in 1974 by MPC (Model Products Corporation) based loosely on the Walt Disney World attraction, with the company also releasing a Pirates of the Caribbean series. These model kits were animated by way of a lever and rubber band system inside marketed under the name Zap/Action.
In 2021, Round 2, a model kit company dedicated to re-releasing classic model kits, would re-release the series under a license-free label called "Haunted Manor" under the Polar Lights brand.
Model Kits[]
Play It Again, Sam[]
Based on the Pipe Organ, this kit has Spidery Sam sitting at the keyboard to play a haunting refrain. When his arms slam down on the keyboard, the Mummy pops out of the organ to frighten the musician.
Escape from the Crypt[]
Loosely inspired by the Conservatory's coffin and featuring graveyard characters.
"A spectacular scene in "living detail! Here the helpful henchman tries to free his friend the gnome, who has crawled out of the crypt shackled to a ball and chain. But watch out! There's double ZAP/ACTION here! One touch of the button and the henchman swings his shovel down upon the chain... only to spring loose the casket's scary contents!"
Grave Robber's Reward[]
"This happy-go-lucky, unsuspecting fellow thinks he's discovered buried treasure just six feet down. But look out from behind! Up lifts the lid and... ZAP/ACTION! Out leaps the gruesome grabber, reaching out with cold clammy hands!"
The Vampire's Midnight Madness[]
"This vampire's name is Morris and he's afraid of the dark! The skull on the ground is just too much for him. ZAP/ACTION! He swings his arms up in total fear and knocks the gargoyle off the tombstone revealing that famous smiling face!"
