The Vampire Bat also referred to as the Man-Eating Bat is a character featured in the Corridor of Doors, having existed as concept art for decades before their installation.
History[]
The Vampire Bat appeared in a Marc Davis concept sketch where it was shown in an iron cage with a couple of bloodied bones sticking out as well as drained glasses of what appears to be blood, implying that the bat was much more carnivorous than a normal bat would be. The bat also has glowing red eyes similar to those of the Raven as well as ears that appear more spiked and webbed than any normal bat.
The bat was briefly installed in 2023 at the Disneyland version of the attraction next to the Face Armchair in the Endless Hallway scene, only to be removed in less then a week for unknown reasons. The bat would return in 2024 during Haunted Mansion Holiday in the Corridor of Doors, where it would have a gift tag for Grandpa Marc attached to it.
Trivia[]
- The design of the Bat greatly resembles those ultimately used in the attic sequence for the Attic Bats.
- It is possible that the appearance of the Bat was supposed to be a visual pun intended to be translated as a (literal) vampire bat
- The design of the bat in the cage was likely inspired by a comedic illustration made by Charles Addams for his "Addams Family" series.
