The Undersea Gal is a character from the Nightmare Before Christmas who appears within Haunted Mansion Holiday in Disneyland and Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare in Tokyo Disneyland.

Description[]

Origins[]

The Undersea Gal is a resident of Halloween Town in the 1993 film The Nightmare Before Christmas. She appears to be inspired by the Gill-Man from the film The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) albeit with a tail like that of a mermaid. She assists Jack Skellington in the seasonal creation of Christmas as-well as his take-over of the holiday.

Appearances[]

Haunted Mansion Holiday[]

In the Scary Christmas display of the load area, a depiction of the Undersea Gal is featured with her holding an oversized oyster-shell with a bow tied on it in ribbon. The shell will systematically open and reveal a one-eyed skull on the inside. The head might be an allusion to the Gal's lyric, "Perhaps it's the head that I found in the lake" from the Town Meeting song in the film where she questions what might be found inside a Christmas present.

Later in the séance circle, a card depicting the Undersea Gal is featured in Madame Leota's flying tarot deck. The card represents the, "Seven pearls of wisdom" line of the 13 Days of Christmas poem and shows the Undersea Gal surrounded by seven oversized pearls underwater.

Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare[]

In this overlay, the Gal makes an additional appearance within the hallway typically reserved for the Sinister 11 portraits. In this hallway, there is a portrait showing the Undersea Gal. Her portrait replaces that of Ms. April December which is traditionally found in that space within the corridor.

Trivia[]

  • The River Creature which used to be featured in Phantom Manor shared a similar, Black Lagoon inspired appearance to that of the Undersea Gal.
