Steve is a recurring character from the SLG Haunted Mansion comics, appearing in The Interview's sequels, being Sarah's boyfriend and ending up becoming the Mansion's 1000th ghost.
Biography[]
Steve first appears in The Follow-Up Interview, talking with Sarah in a psychiatry office waiting room about her near death experience. He dismisses Sarah's obsession with the haunts of Gracey Manor as the return of a "bad goth poetry" phase and worrying that her pre-occupation with the afterlife could turn into something much worse.
In The Final Interview, fearing Sarah might try suicide to join the happy haunts, he goes to the Mansion to try and stop her, arriving shortly before Sarah herself actually does. While Sarah ends up being talked out of her desires to live among/join the dead by the Caretaker, Steve becomes lost in the Mansion and considers moving himself and Sarah to Orlando after finding her. He ends up stumbling into the Stretching Room and is terrified by William Gracey's spiel and begins encounter various haunts before being frightened to death by a Knight of the Living Dead that had been following him. His death marks the Mansion hitting ghost number 1000, causing a catastrophe that sucks the Mansion and everyone haunting it into the underworld and out of the mortal plane, leaving Sarah, the Caretaker and the Mansion's head maid staring into the chasm left behind.
In The Misery of the Manse, Steve's spirit, unaware or in denial of his death, meets the fully materialized William Gracey, who explains his current state and the significance of his death. As a freed Madame Leota gloats to Gracey how her botched curse worked and her revenge against him is now complete, even if it has trapped them both in limbo, Steve stares out the window into the boundless realm of mist and decay the house has become trapped in. In the mortal plane, after hearing an explanation from the Caretaker as to what's happened, Sarah resolves to set things right and rescue Steve, leaping into the chasm to try and rescue him and the other 999 ghosts.
