Sarah is the protagonist of The Interview, a multi-part storyline in Slave Labor Graphics's Haunted Mansion comics.

Biography[]

Sarah is a young woman that comes to Gracey Manor for a job interview for a Maid position at the house, rushing to her appointment as she starts running late. After arriving and being ushered by the current head maid to see Madame Leota, she learns that only her soul has arrived to the Mansion, having crashed her car into a tree on the way over and her determination to get to the interview on time kept her from even registering that she had died. As the two try to ease her into realizing her fate, she hears the sounds of a medical crew reviving her body. As she is taken to the hospital in the ambulance, she muses that the Mansion seemed like a nice place to spend an afterlife.

In "The Follow-Up Interview", Sarah discusses her near death experience with her boyfriend Steve in a psychiatric office lobby. Steve dismisses her obsession with the Mansion's party atmosphere as the return of a "bad goth poetry phase", but Sarah resolves to go back and live at the Mansion, even if she has to die to get back there.

In "The Final Interview", Sarah returns to the Mansion, noticing Steve's car has parked outside and that he's wandered off trying to stop her. She ends up meeting the Caretaker who tells her his story of how he buried his late wife in the Mansion's graveyard to continue seeing her, but that this is still a poor alternative to actually having her with him. He asks if Sarah has someone worth living for and she realizes Steve has just been trying to protect her. However, this realization comes too late as Steve has become lost in the Mansion and frightened to death in the Stretching Room, becoming the 1000th ghost. This causes the Mansion and its ghostly inhabitants to sink into the Underworld and vanish from the mortal plane, leaving Sarah, the Caretaker, his dog, and the Head Maid behind.

In "The Misery of the Manse", after hearing tales of the curse surrounding Ghost 1000 and learning how close she was to triggering it herself with her near death experience, resolves to rescue Steve and possibly set things right and leaps into the interdimensional chasm the Mansion left behind. As the Caretaker and the Head Maid watch, they see it as either the bravest or most foolish thing they've ever seen.
