"Perhaps Madame Leota can establish contact. She has a remarkable head for materializing the disembodied."
The Séance Circle is one of the scenes in the Haunted Mansion and Phantom Manor.
Description[]
The Haunted Mansion[]
After passing through the Corridor of Doors, guests doom buggies enter the shadowy Séance Circle. The buggies travel in a circle facing a large table and high-backed chair in the center of the room (a raven perches on the back of the chair). Above this table floats a crystal ball containing the spirit of Madame Leota, chanting incantations that summon the spirits to appear.
"Serpents, and spiders, tail of a rat…
Call in the spirits, wherever they're at!
Rap on a table, it's time to respond…
Send us a message from somewhere beyond!
Goblins and ghoulies from last Halloween...
Awaken the spirits with your tambourines!
Creepies and crawlies, toads in a pond…
Let there be music from regions beyond!
Wizards and witches, wherever you dwell...
Give us a hint… by ringing a bell!"
Meanwhile several instruments and other supernatural objects float through the darkness making noises to correspond with Madame Leota's spells, while a ghostly light seems to draw lines through the air on the far side of the room, perhaps even making the shape of a face. Guests then move out of the room and on to the Grand Hall.
Phantom Manor[]
While nearly identical to its Haunted Mansion counterparts, a few small differences help differentiate the scene. Madame Leota chants incantations in both English and French, alluding to the gathering of spirits for a wedding party in the ballroom, and around the edges of the circle are looming gargoyles.
Trivia[]
- The tarot cards on the table in the Haunted Mansion are: Le Mat (the Fool), l'Ermite (the Hermit) and le Monde (the World). The fool represents wildness, the hermit represents wisdom, and the world represents harmony.
- The floating horn's trumpet banner reads, "X = ?" as a tribute to imagineer X. Atencio but also a gag on how letters such as x are used as variables in algebraic mathematics.
