Jake is a character who appears in Disneyland Paris' Phantom Manor.

History

Jake was a mine-foreman working in Big Thunder Mountain for the Thunder Mesa Mining Company set in the town of Thunder Mesa. Jake was in love with the daughter of the company's owner, Melanie Ravenswood and the two were constantly separated by her controlling father until his untimely death in the earthquake of 1860. After the earthquake, Jake and Melanie became engaged and were to marry inside of Ravenswood Manor but before the wedding Jake was lured into a secret chamber in the rafters of the estate where he was violently murdered by a malevolent Phantom with a rope tied into a noose. To the public, Jake's fate remained a mystery due to the room's secrecy, resulting in his corpse being left in the rafters to rot.

Appearances

Jake appears twice on the attraction, once physically and once in the form of a portrait. Jake's first appearance is in the Stretching Room where he is shown in a portrait where he is shown having a picnic with Melanie while playing the guitar but as the portrait elongates it reveals the picnic being approached by several ants, a scorpion, a tarantula, and a rattlesnake. Jake's second appearance is still in the Stretching Room from when the ceiling vanished and displays Jake's skeletal corpse being hung by the Phantom.

Trivia

  • It is unknown whether or not Jake's soul became a ghost after his death as there is no evidence to support it, although it is possible that the Phantom trapped Jake's spirit in the corpse in order to torture him, similarly to how he trapped Melanie.
  • Jake in part serves as a counterpart to the Ghost Host as they both are shown as skeletal corpses hanging in the cuppolas above their respective stretching rooms.
  • Despite being a vital character in Phantom Manor's past, he is never given an official last name
