The Harlequin Demon is a character from the Nightmare Before Christmas who appears within Haunted Mansion Holiday in Disneyland and Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare in Tokyo Disneyland.

Description[]

Origins[]

The Harlequin Demon is a resident of Halloween Town who is a monster that is a physiology resembling a traditional harlequin's costume; a harlequin being a clown-like stock character from Italian performance-art. The Demon assists in the annual creation of Halloween and in the film assists in Jack Skellington's take-over of Christmas. Notably in the film, the Harlequin Demon creates hats such as one made from the corpse of an old rat; the job probably coming from how the demon's head is made to resemble a jester's hat (albeit made of tentacles).

Appearances[]

Haunted Mansion Holiday[]

The Harlequin Demon only makes one brief appearance in Haunted Mansion Holiday, being found in Madame Leota's séance circle. He represents the "Eight balls of knowledge" line of the 13 days of Christmas poem and is surrounded by 8 magic-8 balls.

Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare[]

In Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare, the Harlequin Demon appears in the portrait corridor usually reserved for the Sinister 11 portraits. The Harlequin Demon is shown in a portrait, holding a box decorated with holly that has a striped snake within it, similar to those dealt out by Lock, Shock and Barrel in the exit crypt (or Oogie Boogie in Disneyland's overlay). His portrait replaces the Witch of Walpurgis' portrait which is typically found there.
