Gracey Manor is a haunted antebellum mansion in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is the primary setting of the 2023 film Haunted Mansion.
History[]
The mansion was discovered fully built sometime after 1788. The first known owner of the mansion was William Gracey who purchased the mansion from a previous undisclosed owner. William intended to settle down in the mansion with his wife Eleanor before she died from yellow fever. William became inconsolable and hired the famed medium Madame Leota to try and summon her ghost. William had Madame Leota perform a séance every night at midnight for a whole year in an effort to contact Eleanor's spirit. However, the séance attracted the spirit of Alistair Crump who wrote to William under the guise of Eleanor, manipulating him into poisoning himself. Alistair then began enacting his plan to perform a dark ritual requiring 1,000 souls to complete, trapping 933 souls inside the mansion.
By 2023, Alistair accumulated 999 souls within the mansion, only needing one willing soul to complete the ritual that would allow Alistair to escape the mansion. During this time, the mansion was purchased by Gabbie, a doctor from New York City who intended to turn the mansion into a bed and breakfast.
