Big Thunder Island is a location in Thunder Mesa in the story of Disneyland Paris' Frontierland, Phantom Manor and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

History[]

Background[]

Big Thunder Island was an island in the Big Thunder Mountain Range which was separated from the rest of the range by a river which would come to be known as the Rivers of the Far West. It contained one of the peaks of Big Thunder Mountain along with the powerful spirit of the Thunderbird. Henry Ravenswood and the Big Thunder Mining Company would centralize their mining operations on Big Thunder Island with the town of Thunder Mesa springing up on the other side of the river. in 1860, an earthquake would come from the mountain which collapsed part of the town and killed Henry Ravenswood among many others. Following this, the trains on the island would become possessed by spirits and run out of control.

Big Thunder Island is the main setting of Disneyland Paris' Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, being accessible by raft similarly to Tom Sawyer Island in Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

This boat passes around Big Thunder Island as part of its route.

The Thunder Mesa Daily Messenger explicitly identifies Big Thunder Island by that name and has stories regarding it.
