Walt Disney and Julie Reihm with Marc Davis

Walt introduces Reihm to Marc Davis, who is working on concepts for the Haunted Mansion. He explains the concept of the changing portraits, and demonstrates it with Medusa, as he tells her story. In the background, portraits that would eventually become Witch of Walpurgis, the Count, and the Ogre are sitting on his desk and hung on the wall.

Davis goes onto explain the stretching room, and Reihm helps demonstrate it by pulling down on a piece of cardboard to reveal the full concept art. The stretching portraits are the same as in the ride - the tightrope girl, the dynamite man, the woman on the tombstone, and the men in quicksand. Concept art for the panther woman can be seen in the background. When Walt stops to take a picture, it cuts to a portrait with moving eyes.

Walt Disney and Julie Reihm with Rolly Crump

Walt introduces Reihm to Rolly Crump, who explains his concepts for the Museum of the Weird. He’s collecting the strangest objects from around the world, such as a haunted vardo, a skeleton clock, and a candle man. Walt shows Reihm a model of the organ, with a skeleton playing it, before walking over to a model of the mansion’s facade. Walt explains that they’ll be bringing ghosts all over the world and giving them a place to stay in Disneyland, making it as appealing to them as possible. They go onto discussing New Orleans Square and Pirates of the Caribbean.
