Disney Plus, or stylized as Disney+, is an American streaming service for video on-demand televised and cinematic content created and owned by The Walt Disney Company. It was launched on November 12, 2019 in the United States and expanded internationally a week later.
History[]
Announcement[]
Disney+ was first announced in late 2017,[1] with a plan of producing original film and television material in addition to catalog content.[2] Until then, most Disney content were available on other streaming services, like Netflix and Hulu.
2019 launch[]
On September 12, Disney has launched Disney+ in the Netherlands today as part of a Beta test in which Dutch users can use Disney+ for free until November 12, the service's launch date. Among the selection of movies and shows available, the 2003 film The Haunted Mansion was made available in the Disney+ trial.[3] On October 14, it was confirmed that The Haunted Mansion would be among the selection of movies and shows available at the Disney+ launch date,[4] On October 15, Disney released some new details on a new documentary series called The Imagineering Story, which would consist of 6 episodes and will be available exclusively on Disney+. The series would chronicle the history of Walt Disney Imagineering as well as behind the scenes of Disneyland and every subsequent theme park and the making of classic attractions such as the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean.[5]
Disney+ launched on November 12, 2019, with many Disney films and series available within the first day of the service.[6][7] In addition, the 2003 film The Haunted Mansion was added to Disney+.[8] Episode 2 of The Imagineering Story "What Would Walt Do?" premiered on November 16, which featured Walt Disney's involvement in creating the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland.[9]
2021 releases[]
There were at least two releases related to the Haunted Mansion franchise in 2021. On July 21, Behind the Attraction released with the Haunted Mansion ride being focused on the second episode. On October 8, Muppets Haunted Mansion, released on the streaming-service Disney+ as a Halloween special.
