"Your flashy flourishes have sullied my reputation long enough!
I, and I alone, shall receive the fame and notoriety that will be this mansion's legacy."
—Mr. Coats to Mr. Davis
Mr. Coats is a character in the comics, based on Disney Imagineer Claude Coats and is an alternate version of the floating candelabra from the attraction.
Biography[]
Mr. Coats was an architect who (along with Mr. Davis) built Gracey Manor. Seeking sole credit for the magnificent Mansion's design, Coats would trap Davis in a mechanized coffin that he could not escape. Davis however had the last laugh, as he had traveled with Coats through a maze of hallways only he knew the right path through. Coats became trapped in the maze, unable to find a way out, with his invisible spirit still holding aloft a candelabra to light his way.
Trivia[]
- Three tributes to Disney Imagineer Claude Coats can be found in the Haunted Mansion attraction at Walt Disney World: a tombstone for Brother Claude in the family plot; a bell for Colonel Coats' Bivouac Berth in the Servants Quarters; and a book, The Art of Deception (by Claude Coats), in the Library.
