Basil is a character from the Haunted Mansion comics story "Blue Loup Garou".

Basil is a dark spirit resembling a demon or vampire that enslaved several Loup Garou in his service, including Bisclavret, Gifr, and Geri, to provide manual labor to whatever foolish mortals living around the bayous of Bien Chasse decided to trade their souls to him for a life of leisure. He was fond of cigars and traveled through the night on a flying canoe. One night, while working on the farm of a client named Benedict, Bisclavret seized an opportunity to escape from cooking duty while Basil lead Benedict to his death at the hands of the other Loup Garou. Bisclavret managed to make it to the grounds of Gracey Manor, but finds himself trapped there by an invisible barrier. He then spots one of Basil's cigar stubs and realizes that his boss expected him to try and escape and lead him to the Mansion to be trapped for eternity as punishment for his defiance.
