Background[]
The Music Box is an enchanted balinese relic which when opened causes inanimate objects to come to life while playing its music. The music-box likely originates or was at-least first notably documented in the island-province of Bali in Indonesia. It has a jewel encrusted handle and several designs of monkeys located on it.
The object came into the possession of Lord Henry Mystic at some point during the early in 1909 and Mystic moved the Music Box to his home/museum in Papua New Guinea, Mystic Manor in order to put the artifact on display.
However one day Mystic's pet monkey Albert opened the music box and caused the Music Box's magic to bring the objects in the museum to life before eventually closing it.

The music box is referenced and depicted in artwork throughout the queue of the ride and in the pre-show.
It is first seen directly in the Acquisitions and Cataloguing Room where it is opened by Lord Mystic's monkey Albert during one of his tours. Following this, it is not physically seen again until the climax but its presence can be felt throughout the manor.
It is physically seen within a vortex in the Chinese Salon where Albert manages to shut it and returns it to the Cataloguing room.
Trivia[]
- The lyrics to the Mystic Manor theme-song mention the Music Box having an ancient curse and that the malevolence of that which is animated by it are because, "Somebody's got to pay". It is unknown what the history or nature of this entails.
- It is unknown if the music-box retains any form of sentience behind its magic. Furthermore, it is unknown if the spirits we see within the items animated by the music-box are spirits from the box itself, possessing them or rather spirits created from the possessions.
- In a way, the music-box is the main-antagonist of Mystic Manor.
